From the Shadows

There will come a day when I will have to leave

One last journey to endure, one last step I will take 

This day of leaving is one that cannot be altered, changed or rearranged

This last day is fixed

One last breath 

One last decision for me to make

But on this day that is to come

When I must say goodbye

My hope, my desire 

Is that you look back on the life we shared, the joy we had

So I can bring you one last smile. 

Thoughts of me may hurt right now

And for that pain I’m truly sorry

Oh, but the life we had, and the dreams we shared. They were truly worth every mile

When you see this body

All of my scars and imperfections you will surely see

Just know I really lived a life I loved

And that was always enough for me 

You held my hand, you kissed me softly

You spoke gently to me 

Your sweet brand of love Was the healing I didn’t know I’d need. 

You walked with me, step by step

You never left my side 

But now I must take one more step

And this step alone is mine 

Things may seem dark right now

You may feel alone

Just know you are the place my heart has always called home 

You see me step into eternity

Though I may be out of view

Just know I’ll see you again one day 

And we’ll have some catching up to do
